Suburban Wow is Back!

This Friday, December 10, is the next episode of Suburban Wow! *Insert loud cheers here*

That's right, this Friday at 10 am EST/ 9 CDT and 7am Pacific Suburban Wow will sneak away from the hustle and bustle of family life during the holidays and poke our heads up from the foxhole for a real celebration!

It will be a very special episode and an out right party! A birthday party as a matter of fact!

Unfortunately, Melisa will not be joining me on our highly professional set. She mentioned something about having to work, blah, blah, blah.

On a positive note, The Next Martha will be my special guest co-host for the day and just to throw a cherry on top, Martha has a December birthday too! So we will be having a tiara wearing fun fest of epic proportions talking about everything birthday, Christmas and Hanukkah related ~~while we laugh and hopefully will not sing~~!

Oh, and just to make things a little more interesting, The Next Martha and I have never ever met before! I am totally sure that we will have instant BFFship though ~~and that Melisa will soon be looking for a new gig~~.

I promise you all will have a great time, so bring a friend and a tiara or a lampshade to wear upon your head, because this will be a real party!

Don't worry: you can't get rid of us that easily!

We are having some scheduling issues, what with me having been unable to do the last show and the upcoming show (which would be this Friday), the fact that the NEXT show after that is supposed to be the day after Thanksgiving (we know you love us more than some of your family members but that's probably not a good day to livestream), and both of us being busier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

We will definitely be back; stay tuned for further details!!

Broadcasting Without Our Better Half

So.

We had a dilemma, but we fixed it the best way we could.

Is there a show tomorrow as scheduled? YES.

Are both of us doing the show? YES.

Is it live?

Ummmmmm.......

Here's what happened. You see, *I* got a (literally) once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go see Oprah in this, her twenty-fifth and final season. (See my blog for details on that story.) Weaselmomma has some obligations she has to take care of, no big deal, but not moveable.

And we didn't want to cancel, because THAT'S how professional we are.

What we did was pre-record (the horror!) the show--a forty-five minute version--and we will post it right HERE on this blog, for your viewing pleasure, at normal show time tomorrow. That's 10 a.m. Eastern/9 a.m. Central in case you forgot.

The only thing missing? YOU. We missed having the viewer interaction so much, but at the same time we wanted to broadcast rather than cancel, so we had to do it this way, just this week. We gave a few of you shout-outs, too, so you'll have to check it out.

The nice thing for you is that, if you're not free at normal show time, you can watch it any time you want.

So...come back tomorrow at show time and watch! It was a great show (all except for you not being there, that is), and we think you'll enjoy. We hope.

Yeah, It's Been THAT Long. Plus? A Time Change (again).

Hey.

How's it going?

It's been a while, huh?

It's been so long that our Free Blog Background disappeared, so I had to go into Blogger really quick and toss this thing up there, and no-I-don't-know-why-our-picture-isn't-centered-but-I-have-lots-to-do-today-so-we're-all-just-going-to-have-to-deal-with-it.

August wasn't really a super-duper month for Suburban WoW. I missed the two broadcast dates because of BlogHer and my Germany trip. For the first show in August, rumor has it that Weaselmomma did the show with Boy Weasel as her co-host, and I've been warned NOT to watch the rerun, because she was not happy with the show. (It wasn't Boy Weasel's fault; it just wasn't a show she was thrilled with.)

The second August show got canceled, because the co-host that Weaselmomma had lined up ended up hospitalized (anything to get out of livestreaming!) (just kidding!) (and she's better now, by the way!).

So now? It's September. School is back in session, and Suburban WoW as you know it is coming back.

Only we're coming back at 9:00 a.m. Central Time.
10:00 a.m. Eastern.
8:00 a.m. Mountain.
7:00 a.m. Pacific.

Frankly, though the lunchtime spot was fun, our viewership dropped, and though we can't please everybody, the earlier time actually does work better for us and, it would seem, for many of you who *sniff sniff* left us because you had other, more pressing things to do...like work. Or take care of your kids.

Thanks to Dawn Meehan for being our extra-special guest today; I'm thrilled she was there for many reasons, one of which was so that she could talk with Weaselmomma so I could figure out how to moderate the chat room and delete comments left by trolls. SO ANNOYING.

We are going to have to choose a couple of regular viewers to help me moderate, because I won't be able to handle it and hold up my end of a conversation at the same time on future shows when it's mostly just the two of us! I'll be e-mailing around in the next week or two to find a few people who can commit to being in the chat room on certain days, to help us keep the room nice and clean.

Let's face it, there all good shows, but this episode should be especially fun. Fellow blogger Dawn Meehan, author of Because I Said So, will be joining Melisa and I in the kitchen.

If you don't know Dawn, you want too. She's a highly entertaining mother of 6 and my slacker mom in arms. It will be a good time as we talk about such topics as,..............well, we haven't exactly figured that part out yet - as usual.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ustream!

OH MAH GAWD.

What a mess the show today started out to be. Here's what happened.

I arrived at Jen's (@thenextmartha) house at about 10:35. She had her kitchen table all ready for my laptop, and the beautiful flowers for our #flowersmackdown (flower arranging contest) in beautiful vases on a sideboard (the top of which was tiled by Jen and her husband) that would serve as our backdrop.

I was able to get online right away. (yay!) I sent a couple of tweets, saying that we were just about ready to go.

Then I logged into Livestream, and I couldn't get to our broadcasting studio.

I COULDN'T GET INTO OUR STUDIO. The screen said it was an internal error. So what. Any error equals BAD when you're supposed to do a show in ten minutes.

I kept trying and trying as I thought of a contingency plan.

A-ha! Ustream! Weaselmomma have been talking about it for weeks, ever since Livestream started airing commercials randomly through our broadcast.

So, with less than ten minutes before the show, I signed up for Ustream, and got us streaming at about 11:02. I had no idea where the chat feature was, or what address to tell people to go to, in order to watch...it was a mess.

Then, I finally figured out the url and sent it out. Jen and I just started doing the show, with only one viewer (two, if you count the fact that her desktop was on our channel, in her family room). As more viewers joined, we were off to a great start. I still couldn't find the chat room, though.

Then, around ten minutes in, my sister called my cell phone, which was on the table in front of me.

"We can't hear you," she said.

WHAAAAAT????

Unfortunately, I had heard her correctly. WE HAD BEEN TALKING FOR TEN MINUTES AND NOBODY COULD HEAR US. I had no idea what to do, since I'm a total Ustream newb.

I started messing with this and that, and then...voila'! Our audience could hear us.

So...OH MAH GAWD.

Here's the repeat. Just be aware that you need to fast forward to about the ten minute mark before you'll hear anything. (But when you get to the sound, back up just a little bit to see Jen and I freaking out because I can't figure out what to do. It's good "television".

Thanks to everyone who joined us; we had a SUPER audience today. I look forward to having Jen on the show again sometime; maybe she can show Weaselmomma and I a thing or two about any of those Martha Stewart-ish things that she is tremendously skilled at. (THANK YOU, JEN!!! xoxo)

Special Guest Co-host This Friday!

Due to the fact that Weaselmomma is headed to the Lou (not the Loo), it fell upon me to get myself a co-host for this Friday's Suburban WoW (livestreaming at 11 a.m. Central Time), or cancel entirely.

As luck would have it, I found somebody (who actually lives about fifteen minutes away from me) who I think you'll really enjoy, and now that I've personally met her (at lunch today), I can say that she is sure to entertain all of us.

Many of you "know" her on Twitter; her handle is @thenextmartha. She is HILARIOUS. You know all those funny things she tweets? Yep, she's THAT funny in person, too.

It was funny; when she walked into Portillos today, she was wearing a shirt that was nearly identical to one that I have, and I'm not talking solid-colored t-shirt. It was a cream-colored shirt with an Indian print all down the front portion of it. It was bizarre; I nearly wore MY shirt like that today, and, well, that would have been TOO funny.

Anyway, "Martha" (not her real name) and I need your help for part of the show. You have homework, you see.

1. Toss us some topics that you think would be fun to talk about. Most of what we came up with at lunch wasn't fit for a PG-rated show. haha

2. I challenge you to come up with some questions for "Martha", you know, ones about homemaking and entertaining that you would actually ask the real Martha Stewart if you could. She/we will do our best to make up really good answers.

I'm really excited that "Martha" is going to school me on flower arranging during the show. Well, she thinks she is. (and maybe she is, but WE'LL SEE.) We're going to have a little friendly competition. Should be fun to watch, anyway.

Breaking News!

Due to the fact that we have to be in the city talking to Oprah about using Harpo Studios (when she's done with it) on the next step in our quest to take over the world via Suburban WoW*, we won't be livestreaming this Friday. Due to a personal obligation that one of us has, Suburban WoW will stream at a different time for (we think) the next three shows, March 19, April 2, and April 16.

(You're welcome, west coasties!)

While we know we might lose a couple of you because of work (hate how that gets in the way!), we might grab others who can't watch at the other time; either way, we apologize for moving your cheese but it can't be helped. Yeah, we're late with it. Sue us. It's been a busy month!

So, until we can find some professional who will renovate this here space for a custom rainbow cake and an autographed portrait of Weaselmomma, I've given us a makeover, low-rent style.

Does anyone want to share what they think about it? NICELY, though: I respect all opinions, but please choose words carefully because I'm a delicate flower. Keep in mind that I had to go with what the internetz was offering at a price I could afford (free).

"The Locator" is that awesome show I was talking about; it's on WEtv. (New shows begin in March!) Troy Dunn is a private investigator who reunites long-lost family members. It's a tear-jerker, but SO very uplifting. He is trying to build up his following on Twitter in order to use his followers as part of his searches, and will do a free search for one of his followers when he hits 10,000. I told him I'd help him out by talking about it on the show, and I was rewarded with a tweet from Troy:

Whoa! Did you miss us? We certainly missed you! We took some time off for the holidays and then I took some time off to go to Tennessee to take care of some loved ones, and, well, now we're back! It's time to restart our regular schedule of the Suburban WoW livestream!

We're back on "the air" (do you use that term for a livestream??) THIS FRIDAY, January 22 at 10 a.m. EST, 9 a.m. CST, 8 a.m. MST, and 7 a.m. PST. Where to watch? I'll give you the address, but know that our last show (from MID-DECEMBER) is still playing on a loop. Blech. Maybe you shouldn't click the link until it's showtime THIS FRIDAY. Anyway, the link? We've got a great show planned for this Friday; after being out of commission for a full month, we've had lots of time to recharge and we want to make it a really fun show. Sick Day!

Uh-oh!

We regret to inform you that we will not be broadcasting as originally planned tomorrow. :(

Weaselmomma is very sick (I've spoken with her twice today and I have to say that even living 15 minutes from her, I'm nervous that she might have coughed on me, all the way over here, subsequently infecting me with whatever she's got and putting my own family in danger!) (but that probably really didn't happen), and my attempts to get a co-host to fill her huge shoes were fruitless, so we're taking the day off.

The good news? You can still see the rerun from last week on our livestream channel, www.livestream.com/suburbanwow.

Also, as the next date we would be due to broadcast is on the day after Thanksgiving, we're pushing that show to the Tuesday AFTER Thanksgiving, which is December 1 (OY!). The great news? It's going to be Suburban WoW After Dark! We'll be broadcasting at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. CST/7 p.m. MST/6 p.m. PST, which might even mean that I may miss the season finale of NBC's "The Biggest Loser" for YOU, the people (I don't know when it's on, but that date sounds about right), but I guess I'm okay with that. I may have to ask the Weasels to turn it on in the background, or I might leave the shot and let Weaselmomma handle the conversation for a few moments so I can catch up with the weigh-ins. But anyway, we haven't done an After Dark version of the show since the one we did when we first started, and it should be really fun!

So, we're sorry to have to cancel for tomorrow, but we will plan a super-dee-duperly awesome show for Tuesday, December 1st!

This Friday would normally be an "off" week for us, but Weaselmomma ~~merely brought up the idea and I was sold before she finished her sentence because it's all about me~~ suggested that a birthday show would be fun, and I graciously agreed. It's my actual birthday, so I will be wearing a tiara, of course.

Guess what? We are broadcasting from a different location: MY HOUSE this time, so I don't have to drive across town on my birthday and be subjected to the Weasel chaos and subsequent rushy-rushy of getting our shot set up and the lighting correct.

Guess what else? We just *might* have a giveaway or two. Think of it as Oprah's favorite things show, except the things cost less than $10 and only one person gets each prize. Other than that, it's just like Oprah's thing. You'll have to watch in order to find out how to enter the giveaways. Sneaky, aren't we?

Thanks to everyone who watched and tweeted to us during this morning's broadcast! If you had to miss it because of that infernal J-O-B you have (or for any other reason), never fear; we're broadcasting the repeat on a loop through at least Saturday evening. Okay, let's be honest. In other news (just as exciting!), we need some video promos, and we're asking for YOUR help! Naturally, Weaselmomma and I are capable of slapping together a couple of totally adorable yet hysterical commercials for our show, and we will. But we thought it would be way cool and way fun to ask all of you who might be so inclined to throw one together for us too!

The best part is, it's not even a contest, really. Though we reserve the right to TURN IT into a contest eventually to see who you think made the best one, we're waiting on that and will use ALL "acceptable", rated PG promos in the loop we'll run on the channel.

There aren't too many rules:

1. Just a quick note to remind you not to forget about Suburban WoW tomorrow (Friday) at 9 a.m. Central time! (10 Eastern, 8 Mountain, 7 Pacific) *CLICK HERE* to watch.

We are, for now, changing the format a little bit. The trolls became a big pain in the…eyes, so we’re closing the chat. BUT you can all chat on Twitter (Talk about how great we look or something), and if you want us to address something, just @ us at @suburbanwow. I’ll be looking at our replies page on my handy-dandy phone. (Don’t DM us; just @!) Weaselmomma still can’t see, so of course this will be my department. She’s better at being entertaining anyway.

Weaselmomma and I don’t think this will be a permanent change, but for now while we’re still figuring everything out, we wanted to try it. Trolls can still @ us (jerks), but fortunately nobody will see their tweets, assuming they aren’t being followed by any of you! So they probably won't stick around long, and I won't be stressing out about all the filthy stuff.

Hey there! Don't forget, Weaselmomma and I are hosting "Suburban WoW: After Dark", live (that's why they call it "livestreaming") from the Chicago burbs TOMORROW (Tuesday, 7/21/09) evening at 9:00 p.m. Eastern, 8:00 p.m. Central, and 6:00 p.m. Pacific.

We are really excited to do this special evening edition and hope you'll join us!

This time, we're doing the show for one hour only. We know that you would all love for us to stay on continuously for about eight hours, but it's a busy week for us. World's Ugliest Header.

But it'll do for this week, don't you think? My son is going to attempt to make us a funky graphic we can use for a blog button, and I hope he'll be able to whip up a better header (which wouldn't be hard). I had to get something usable though, so I sat here beating my head against the keyboard until that header up there came out. ick.

Anyway, welcome! Weaselmomma and I thought we needed one blogsite that we could both access (since, frankly, I don't trust her with the keys to mine and vice versa*), one that will be the go-to place for updates on our Baby.

If you missed our first episode on Friday, you missed one hour, forty-five minutes of neither one of us shutting up. And we only stopped because our Mama Oprah grabbed that giant hook and yanked us off of her livestream channel. That's okay though, we'll be back.

We're attempting to put on our little chatfest on alternate Friday mornings at 10 Eastern/9 Central (and yes, 7 Pacific, Tom!). We'll post the schedule here as soon as WM and I can conference and verify dates.

In the meantime, since our next Friday falls during the BlogHer conference, we decided to do "Suburban WoW After Dark", a special edition**, on Tuesday evening, July 21. We'll be on for an hour starting at 9 Eastern, 8 Central.

We'll be working on this site for a while. Keep coming back and browsing around. A few notes:

1. When my son gets a blog button finished, we'll put it up here and keep our fingers crossed that you will grab it and put it on your blog.

2. Our blogroll is open to one and all. Please don't be offended if you're not on it yet; I just grabbed a bunch of blogs from each of our lists and threw them on there. If you want to be listed you WILL BE. Just e-mail me (Melisa) and I'll take care of it before you can blink. Maybe. Something like that.

3. You can't leave comments on this blog. Are you kidding? We have enough to moderate on our other personal blogs and our columns over at Dad Blogs too. But if you need us, we're here. E-mail links are over there on the right.

4. Why not follow this blog? If you're on Blogger and you're into that, we will feel less pitiful if we have a few followers. Okthxbai.
